Dick Allen News Conference Set for Monday, June 11

Former White Sox great Dick Allen will meet with the media on Monday, June 11, as the Chicago Baseball Museum begins its tribute to the one-time Most Valuable Player and the rest of the 1972 team.

The news conference will take place at 1 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Field. Media attending should come to Gate 4 of the ballpark.

“Dick isn't one for lengthy speeches, but he looks forward to the chance to talk with the media about this White Sox days, which he considers to be the highlight of his career," said Howie Bedell, his agent.

The event had been scheduled for earlier this week, but the date was pushed back after Allen was advised to have a follow-up medical examination.

“At this point, Dick, his family and his physicians are encouraged by the test results,” Bedell said. “He would like to thank all of those who wished him well the last few days.

On Monday evening, June 25, the Chicago Baseball Museum will pay tribute to Allen and the 1972 White Sox team, which contended for the West Division title and turned around the franchise in the process. The fundraising dinner will take place at 6 p.m. in the Stadium Club at U.S. Cellular Field.

In addition to Allen, team members Tom Bradley, Rich Gossage, Bart Johnson, Jay Johnstone, Carlos May and Bill Melton and personnel director Roland Hemond are expected to be in attendance.

White Sox Interactive senior correspondent Mark Liptak and Sun-Times columnist Richard Roeper will serve as emcees.

Allen also will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday, June 24, at U.S. Cellular Field. Replicas of the 1972 White Sox jerseys will be distributed to the first 10,000 fans 13 and under at the 1:10 p.m. contest.
