Inaugural San Jose Giant Race Set for Saturday, June 16

San Francisco & San Jose series participants eligible for the Double Play Award

This Saturday, June 16 the Inaugural San Jose Giant Race will welcome over 2,000 runners for a triumphant “field finish” at Municipal Stadium.  Runners in both 5k and 5 Mile run/walk distances will tour numerous San Jose landmarks including Kelley Park, History San Jose and even a dash through Happy Hollow Park and Zoo.  Mirroring the extremely popular San Francisco Giant Race that finishes on the field at AT&T Park, the San Jose event will reward runners with a minor league version of that experience concluding at Municipal Stadium, home of the San Jose Giants.

Festivities include a post-race tailgate on the field, a free youth baseball clinic, and a free ticket for all participants to the San Jose Giants’ game that evening. In addition, runners will make themselves eligible for the coveted Double Play Award, distributed following the San Francisco Giant Race on September 16 to those runners who complete both events.

The San Jose Giant Race is a benefit for two local charities the Bay Area Women’s Sports Initiative (BAWSI) and the Junior Giants Program.  BAWSI, led by San Jose’s own Olympic Champion Brandi Chastain, will have close to 100 girls participating in the 5k run/walk.  The Junior Giants have raised over $10,000 through the event, which will allow more than 500 kids to participate in their program this summer.

Registration is still available and more information can be found at www.sanjosegiantrace.com
