RHP Charlie Morton undergoes Tommy John surgery

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today that RHP Charlie Morton underwent surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. The surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, FL.

Morton, 28, went on the 15-day disabled on June 1 with inflammation in his right elbow. He went 2-6 with a 4.65 ERA (50.1ip/26er) in nine starts with the Pirates this season.

The recovery period for this type of surgery is typically 12-18 months.
