Rangers purchase contract of RHP Justin Grimm from Double-A Frisco; Option RHP Yoshinori Tateyama to Triple-A Round Rock

RHP Neftali Feliz transferred from 15- to 60-day disabled list

The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Justin Grimm (#51) from Double-A Frisco.  Grimm is scheduled to make his major league debut in a start tonight against Houston.  To make room on the active roster for Grimm, the team has optioned right-handed pitcher Yoshinori Tateyama to Triple-A Round Rock.  To make room on the 40-man roster for Grimm, the Rangers have transferred right-handed pitcher Neftali Feliz from the 15- to the 60-day disabled list.

Grimm, 23, will be making his first career start above the Double-A?level tonight.  He has gone 8-3 with a 1.87 ERA (16 ER/77.0 IP) and 67 strikeouts against 14 walks in 13 games/starts with Frisco in 2012.  Through yesterday’s games, he had the lowest ERA in the Texas League, ranking among that circuit’s leaders in wins (2nd), WHIP (3rd, 1.03), opponent batting average (5th, .228), and strikeouts (6th).  His 1.87 ERA with Frisco is the 10th-lowest in all of minor league baseball this season.  He compiled a 25.0-inning scoreless streak over a 4-start stretch from May 24-June 10, as he has allowed runs in just one of his last 27.0 innings at Double-A.

Grimm was selected to the Texas League South Division All-Star team on Thursday.  The Virginia native and University of Georgia Bulldog has gone 15-6 with a 2.85 ERA (69 ER/217.2 IP) and 194 strikeouts against 62 walks over 38 career starts in his professional career.  He was originally drafted by Texas in the 5th round in 2010 (166th overall).

Tateyama has gone 1-0 in 7 relief appearances since being recalled on May 21, allowing 13 runs (11 earned) in 8.1 innings.  He last pitched on Thursday vs. Arizona.  Tateyama has spent the balance of the season with Round Rock.

Feliz was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 21, retroactive to May 19, with right elbow inflammation.  The first date he would be eligible to return is July 18.
