A's MUG Root Beer Float Day Set for Wednesday, June 20

A's Players and Bay Area Celebrities to Serve Ice Cream for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

WHAT:
13th Annual A's MUG Root Beer Float Day

A's players and coaches will join Bay Area radio and television personalities and local newspaper reporters to serve root beer floats in the Eastside Club at the Coliseum from 5:05 p.m. to 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, with proceeds benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Admission is free to the event with a ticket for that night's 7:05 p.m. game between the A's and Los Angeles Dodgers.

MUG Root Beer and Orange Crush floats will be priced at $2 each and additional money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will be raised through tips given in exchange for autographs from celebrity scoopers. In addition, 32oz. mugs with unlimited root beer float refills will be sold for $15 and 32oz. mugs autographed by A's shortstop Cliff Pennington will be available for $25, while supplies last. Floats made with sugar-free ice cream and diet MUG root beer will be available to fans at designated tables.

Last year's MUG Root Beer Float Day raised over $29,000, and since 2003, the A's have raised over $329,000 for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. A's MUG Root Beer Float Day is sponsored by Pepsi. The ice cream for the event is donated by Dreyer's.

Among those who are expected to participate in the event, alongside Bay Area radio and television personalities and newspaper reporters, include A's manager Bob Melvin, current A's players Jerry Blevins, Yoenis Céspedes, Collin Cowgill, Josh Donaldson, Jonny Gomes, Pennington, and Jemile Weeks, former players Lance Blankenship, Greg Cadaret, David Justice, John "Blue Moon" Odom, and Terry Steinbach, wives of A's players and A's broadcasters Ray Fosse, Glen Kuiper and Vince Cotroneo.
