Carolina OF Anthony Gallas is Indians’ Minor League Player of the Week

The Cleveland Indians today announced Carolina OF ANTHONY GALLAS has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for May 28 – June 3. The Indians Player of the Week award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and is announced each Tuesday through the end of the Minor League season.

Gallas, 24, hit .478 (11-23) with a double, 3 HR and 7 RBI throughout the week, while posting a 1.413 OPS (.500 on-base pct./.913 slugging pct.).  On June 13 at Lynchburg, Gallas went 3-for-4 with a run scored, HR and 4 RBI in Carolina’s 7-2 win. Over the course of the week, he raised his batting average over 30 points from .220 to the current .251 mark. For the 2012 season, he is batting .251 (44-175) with 25 runs scored, 11 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs and 23 RBI while posting a .761 OPS (.321 on-base pct., .440 slugging pct.).

Gallas was signed by the Indians as a non-drafted free agent in June of 2010. He attended Strongsville High School before playing four years and earning a degree from Kent State University in 2010.  During his senior season he was named a Louisville Slugger third team All-American after hitting .367 with 81RBI, the second highest single-season total in Kent State history. He left Kent State as their career leader in RBI (224), walks (135) and total bases (509), while being tied for first in home runs (49) and second in runs (207).
