Braves Pitcher Brandon Beachy undergoes successful surgery

ATLANTA – Atlanta Braves right-handed pitcher Brandon Beachy underwent successful “Tommy John” surgery today to reconstruct the partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. The operation was performed in Gulf Breeze, Fla., by Dr. James Andrews.

Beachy, 25, went 5-5 with a 2.00 ERA in 13 starts for the Braves this season. At the time of his surgery, Beachy ranked tied for the Major-League-lead in ERA at 2.00, while he led the Majors in opponents’ batting average (.171) among all qualifying starting pitchers. He owns a career record of 12-10 with a 3.07 ERA in 41 career starts.
