Joel Osteen to throw out first pitch on Faith and Family Night Saturday; Morgan inducted into Walk of Fame today

HOUSTON, TX -- Joel Osteen, renowned senior pastor at Houston’s Lakewood Church, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Saturday as part of the Astros annual Faith and Family Night at Minute Maid Park.

Osteen, a Houston native, will throw out the first pitch prior to Saturday’s 3:05 p.m. Astros-Indians game. A free concert featuring Grammy award-winning Christian rock band Third Day will take place following the game. Fans must have a ticket to Saturday’s game to attend the concert.

Morgan inducted today, throws first pitch

Former Colt .45s/Astros All-Star second baseman Joe Morgan was inducted onto the Astros Walk of Fame this afternoon during a ceremony held on the Texas Ave. sidewalk outside Minute Maid Park. Morgan played parts of his first nine Major League seasons with the Colt .45s (1963-64) and Astros (1965-71) in what would ultimately be a Hall of Fame career lasting from 1963-84. He was a two-time All-Star while with Houston (1966, 1970), holding the distinction of being the first All-Star position player in franchise history in 1966.  As a member of the Cincinnati Reds, whom he played for from 1972-79, Morgan was a two-time NL MVP (1975-76) and played in four World Series and eight All-Star Games. Morgan would return to Houston in 1980 and was a member of that N.L. Western Division Championship club, which was the first playoff team in franchise history. He also played in the 1983 World Series as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. Upon his retirement, Morgan’s 268 career home runs were a Major League record for second basemen.

Also, as part of the Astros “Flashback Fridays” promotion, Morgan threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to tonight’s 7:05 p.m. Astros game vs. Cleveland. Current Astros second baseman Jose Altuve received Morgan’s first pitch. The Astros players are wearing the popular rainbow jersey uniforms from the 1970s for tonight’s game.
