D-backs recall Albaladejo from Reno, place Saunders on disabled list

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today they have recalled right-handed pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo from Triple-A Reno and placed left-handed pitcher Joe Saunders on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left shoulder (retro to June 17), according to D-backs’ Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

Albaladejo, 29, was 3-1 with a 2.64 ERA (9 ER in 30.2 IP), 13 saves and a .190 (20-for-105) opponents average with the Aces in 2012. He ranks second among Pacific Coast League relievers in opponents average and is tied for third in saves.

Albaladejo made 1 relief appearance with the D-backs this season, tossing 1.0 scoreless inning on April 23 vs. Phillies.

Saunders, 31, is 4-5 with a 3.44 ERA (31 ER in 81.0 IP) in 13 starts with the D-backs this season. He was unable to start last night’s game due to shoulder soreness.
