Faces of Freedom Softball Game scheduled for July 1

Arlington, TX—The first annual Faces of Freedom Softball Game will take place on Sunday, July 1 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington prior to the Rangers-Oakland A’s series finale.

Hosted by Rangers pitcher Scott Feldman and his wife Kelli, the game will feature The Warrior Transition Brigade against a team of Texas Rangers Legacy Alumni and will take place from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Rangers Ballpark gates will open at 3:30 p.m. with the Texas-Oakland game beginning at 6:05 p.m.

The softball game is just one aspect of Scott and Kelli Feldman’s Face of Freedom commitment. They have hosted families of deployed soldiers from Dyess Air Force Base and patients from the DFW Veteran's Hospital, providing tickets and goody bags as well as greeting the groups. The guests also receive specially-designed Feldy's Faces of Freedom t-shirts.

The Warrior Transition Brigade (WTB) is a Fort Hood partnership for Army Strong Warriors, Veterans and Units.  Activated in August 2008, its mission is to provide command and control, primary care and case management for wounded, ill or injured Soldiers with complex medical conditions that require long-term medical care.

While assigned to the WTB, the Soldiers' mission is to focus on healing and recovery so they can either return to the force or transition to continue serving the nation as a Veteran in their community. Working together, squad leaders, case managers and primary care managers oversee the health, welfare and morale of WTB's Soldiers in Transition. This Triad of Care is augmented by a multidisciplinary team of health care and transition specialists such as social workers, physical therapists and occupational therapists who work together to coordinate and optimize the care and transition of each soldier in Transition.

The Soldier in Transition's schedule centers on medical rehabilitation, employment, and physical fitness. Additionally, each Soldier self-identifies his/her transition goals in their blueprint for a holistic recovery: the Comprehensive Transition Plan that addresses such areas as career, physical, emotional, family, social and spiritual.

Besides the focus on medical appointments, Soldiers are afforded the opportunity to participate in work programs and Operation Warfighter internships with the federal government, which can lead to full-time employment once the Soldier leaves the military.

The players scheduled to participate in the game for The Warrior Transition Brigade have combined for 32 total deployments abroad and have earned four Purple Hearts.

Members of the Texas Rangers Legacy Alumni schedule to play include Mike Bacsik, Jr., Jose Guzman, Dave Hostetler, David Hulse, Mike Jeffcoat, Mark McLemore, Kevin Mench, Pete O’Brien, Jeff Russell, and Bump Wills.

Fox Sports Southwest has also joined in Feldman's effort with providing transportation on the FSSW Fan Express bus and game tickets.
