A’s Recall Carter from Sacramento; Option Ross to Sacramento

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s recalled first baseman Chris Carter from Triple-A Sacramento and optioned right-handed pitcher Tyson Ross to Sacramento, the team announced today.

Carter was batting .279 with 12 home runs and 53 RBI in 72 games with the River Cats. He also walked 38 times for a .367 on-base percentage and was slugging .486. He led Sacramento in RBI, ranked second in walks, runs (48) and strikeouts (74) and was third in doubles (19) and home runs at the time of his promotion. Carter was batting .386 with 11 runs, four doubles, two home runs and five RBI over his final 12 games. He appeared in 47 games at first base and 25 games at designated hitter. The 25-year-old will be making his A’s season debut and is a .167 career hitter with three home runs and seven RBI in 39 games with Oakland over the previous two years.

Ross is 2-8 with a 6.35 ERA in 12 starts over three stints with the A’s this year. He began the season at Sacramento before he was recalled April 17, the first day the A’s needed a fifth starter. Ross went 2-6 with a 6.51 ERA in nine starts with the A’s before he was optioned back to Sacramento May 31. He made two starts with the River Cats before he was recalled a second time June 16, starting that day against the Padres. Ross allowed two runs on one hit and four walks in 6.0 innings and had a no decision in the A’s 6-4 win over San Diego and was optioned back to Sacramento the next day. He was then recalled for a third time June 23 and was 0-2 with a 7.71 ERA in two starts following his return.
