Twins sign Ryan Doumit to a two-year contract extension

Contract runs through the 2014 season

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have extended catcher Ryan Doumit through the 2014 season, agreeing on a two-year contract.  Doumit will make $3,500,000 in each 2013 and 2014.

Doumit, 31, has appeared in 59 games for the Twins this season, including playing first base, right field, catcher and serving as the club’s designated hitter.  He has hit .271 with 12 doubles, seven home runs and 32 rbi.

Prior to this season, Doumit had spent his entire career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, batting .271 (534-for-1967) with 125 doubles, five triples, 67 home runs and 266 rbi in 611 games.

The Twins originally signed Doumit to a one-year, $3,000,000 contract, this past offseason as a free agent.
