RHP Carlos Torres recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Carlos Torres from Triple-A Colorado Springs. To make room on the active roster, Colorado has optioned left-handed pitcher Josh Outman to Double-A Tulsa. Torres (#59) will be in uniform and available for tonight’s Rockies at Cardinals game at Busch Stadium (5:15 p.m. MDT).

Torres, 29, is making his fourth appearance on the Rockies active roster this season. The right-hander has appeared in four games for the Rockies in 2012, and has no record while posting a 4.50 ERA (6.0 ip, 3 er) with 5 walks and 4 strikeouts. Torres has spent the remainder of the season at Triple-A Colorado Springs, going 5-4 with a 3.98 ERA (61.0 ip, 27 er), 25 walks and 59 strikeouts in 14 games/13 starts. Torres was signed as a Minor League free agent by Colorado on December 20, 2011. He was a non-roster invite to Major League Spring Training.

Outman, 27, has gone 0-3 with a 9.00 ERA (31.0 ip, 31 er), 16 walks and 32 strikeouts in 15 games/7 starts for the Rockies this season. Outman began the season on the 15-day DL with a strained oblique before being activated on May 15th. The left-hander is 8-11 with a 4.64 ERA (182.1 ip, 94 er) in 48 career games/32 starts. Outman was acquired along with Guillermo Moscoso from Oakland in exchange for Seth Smith on January 16, 2012.

The Rockies have 39 players on the 40-man roster.
