Braves and Reds Announce Two-Player Trade
Atlanta acquires shortstop Paul Janish from Cincinnati
The Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds announced today that the two clubs have completed a two-player trade. The Braves have acquired shortstop Paul Janish from the Reds in exchange for right-handed pitcher Todd Redmond. Janish will wear uniform number 4.
Janish, 29, has played in 324 major league games over parts of four seasons with the Cincinnati Reds. Originally drafted by the Reds in the fifth round of the 2004 June free agent draft out of Rice University, Janish was twice rated as the best defensive infielder (2005, 2006) in the Reds organization by Baseball America. He owns a .221 career major league average (193-for-872) and has appeared in 283 games at shortstop (including 80 in 2011), 21 games at third base and 12 games at second base. Janish has played 539 games over seven minor league seasons and owns a career minor league average of .259 (495-for-1914).
Redmond, 27, owns a career record of 69-56 with a 3.57 ERA over eight minor league seasons. Redmond was acquired by the Braves from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for RHP Tyler Yates on March 26, 2008 after being drafted by the Pirates in the 39th round of the 2004 June free agent draft.
