Blue Jays complete trade with Astros

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have completed a 10-player trade with the Houston Astros. LHP J.A. HAPP, RHP BRANDON LYON & RHP DAVID CARPENTER have been acquired by the Blue Jays, while OF BEN FRANCISCO, RHP FRANCISCO CORDERO, RHP ASHER WOJCIECHOWSKI, RHP JOE MUSGROVE, LHP DAVID ROLLINS, C CARLOS PEREZ and a player to be named later have been traded to the Astros. OF TRAVIS SNIDER has been recalled by the club from Las Vegas (AAA) and will report to Boston in time for tonight’s game.

HAPP, 29, is in his 6th Major League season, and has posted a 7-9 record with a 4.83 ERA in 18 starts this season with Houston. The Peru, Illinois native has posted 12 quality starts in his last 18 outings and has allowed three or less runs in four of his last five. The 6-6, 195lb. left-hander owns a 32-33 career record with a 4.16 ERA in his six seasons with Philadelphia (2007-10) and Houston (2010-12).

LYON, 32, is 0-2 with a 3.75 ERA in 37 relief appearances. The Salt Lake City, Utah native is returning to the Blue Jays after breaking into the Major Leagues with the club in 2001-02. The 6-1, 200lb. right-hander is in his 11th season having posted a 36-45 record with a 4.17 ERA and 78 saves in 505 games, including 21 starts, all with Toronto.

CARPENTER, 27, is in his 2nd Major League season having posted a 0-2 record with a 6.07 ERA in 30 relief appearances. The Morgantown, West Virginia native recorded a 1-3 record with a 2.93 ERA in his rookie season in 2011. The right-hander will report to Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).

SNIDER, 24, has spent all of 2012 with Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League. The Kirkland, Washington native has posted a .335 average with 13 home runs and 56 RBI in 56 games for the 51s. The 6-0, 235lb. outfielder has appeared in 232 games at the Major League level recording a .248 average with 28 home runs and 104 RBI.

FRANCISCO, 30, is batting .240 in 27 games for the Blue Jays this season. The Santa Ana, California native has a .250 average with 41 home runs and 176 RBI in six Major League season with Cleveland (2007-09), Philadelphia (2009-11) and Toronto (2012).

CORDERO, 37, has posted a 3-5 record with a 5.77 ERA and two saves in 41 outings for the Blue Jays in 2012. The 14-year veteran has recorded 329 saves to rank 12th on the all-time Major League saves list.

WOJCIECHOWSKI, 23, was selected 41st overall in the 2010 draft. The Charleston, South Carolina native is 7-3 with a 3.57 ERA in 18 starts with Dunedin in his 3rd professional season. The 6-4, 235lb. right-hander is 18-12 with a 4.05 ERA in his three seasons with Auburn (A) and Dunedin (high-A).

MUSGROVE, 19, was selected 46th overall in the 2011 draft. The El Cajun, California native is 1-1 with a 3.51 ERA in two professional seasons with the Gulf Coast Blue Jays and Bluefield (A).

ROLLINS, 22, was selected in the 24th round of the 2011 draft by the Blue Jays. The Deberry, Texas native is 10-1 with a 2.46 ERA in 25 starts in two professional seasons with Blue field, Vancouver (A) and Lansing (A).

PEREZ, 21, is batting .269 with a five home runs and 40 RBI in 70 games with Lansing (A) this season. The Valencia, Venezuela native is a two time Webster Award winner (Gulf Coast-2009, Auburn-2010), having posted a .279 average with 11 home runs and 172 RBI in five professional seasons.

To make room on the 40-man roster RHP ROBERT COELLO has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
