RHP Alex White recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs

The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Alex White from Triple-A Colorado Springs. To make room on the active roster for White, Colorado has optioned outfielder Andrew Brown to Triple-A Colorado Springs. White (#6) will start tonight’s game for Colorado vs. St. Louis (6:40 p.m. MDT).

White, 23, will be in his second stint with the Rockies this season. He made 10 starts with Colorado earlier this season and went 2-6 with a 6.45 ERA (51.2 ip, 37 er), 22 walks and 34 strikeouts. White has spent the remainder of the 2012 season at Triple-A Colorado Springs, going 3-4 with a 3.71 ERA (60.2 ip, 25 er), 23 walks and 45 strikeouts in 11 starts for the Sky Sox. The Greenville, NC native has made 20 career Major League starts since breaking into the Major Leagues with Cleveland in 2011, and is 5-10 with a 6.73 ERA (103.0 ip, 77 er), 47 walks and 71 strikeouts. White was originally selected by Cleveland in the first round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of North Carolina. He was acquired by Colorado along with three other players in exchange for right-handed pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez on July 31, 2011.

Brown, 27, played 11 games with Colorado after having his contract selected by the club on July 17th and batted .208 (5-for-24) with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. He has spent the remainder of the 2012 season at Triple-A Colorado Springs where he was named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team. In 86 games with the Sky Sox this season, Brown is batting .317 (106-for-334) with 28 doubles, 4 triples, 20 home runs and 84 RBI. Brown’s 84 RBI were the second-most in the Minor Leagues at the time of call up. In 22 career Major League games with St. Louis (2011) and Colorado Brown has hit .196 (9-for-46) with 3 doubles and 6 RBI. Brown was acquired off waivers by Colorado on October 12, 2011, and then outrighted to the Minors after clearing waivers November 18, 2011. He was a non-roster invitee to Major League Spring Training. He was originally selected by St. Louis in the 18th round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of Nebraska.

The Rockies currently have 39 players on the 40-man roster.
