Dugan, Morgan Win July Honors as Phillies Minor League Players of the Month

Outfielder Kelly Dugan of the Lakewood BlueClaws is the Phillies Minor League Player of the Month for July. Pitching honors for the month go to left-hander Adam Morgan of the Clearwater Threshers.

A second round selection in the June 2009 draft, Dugan batted .374 in July as he totaled 40 hits in 29 games, raising his average from .250 to .290 during the month.  Dugan has been a force in the middle of Lakewood’s lineup, hitting .340 (32-94) with runners in scoring position this season.

A 21-year-old from San Diego, Dugan is the son of Hollywood actor and director Dennis Dugan.

Morgan, selected in the third round of the June 2011 draft out of the University of Alabama, went 2-1 during the month with a 1.56 ERA.  The 21-year-old struck out 53 batters in 40.1 innings.

The 6-foot-1 lefty capped off his month by flirting with perfection. On July 29 against Jupiter, Morgan retired the first 22 batters he faced and was perfect through 7.1 innings of work before allowing a base hit to Jacob Realmuto.

The southpaw has endured a bit of bad luck this year, posting an overall record of 4-10, despite a 3.29 ERA and .227 average against.  Morgan has struck out 140 batters while walking only 28.

For his career, the Thresher stands at 7-13 with a 2.90 ERA.
