Mets select LHP Garrett Olson; option RHP Elvin Ramirez

FLUSHING, N.Y., August 7, 2012 - The New York Mets today announced the team selected the contract of lefthanded pitcher Garrett Olson from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League, optioned righthanded pitcher Elvin Ramirez to the Bisons and transferred righthanded pitcher Dillon Gee from the 15-Day Disabled List to the 60-Day Disabled List.  Olson will wear uniform #38 and will be available for tonight's game.
                                                                                                                       
Olson, 28, went 4-7 with a 4.56 ERA (55 earned runs/108.2 innings) in 25 games, 21 starts, for the Bisons this season.  The 6-1, 205-pound native of Fresno, CA struck out 94 and walked 51 at Triple-A.

Olson appeared in the majors last season with Pittsburgh, going 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA (one earned run/4.1 innings) in four games out of the bullpen.  Over five major league seasons with Baltimore, Seattle and the Pirates, Olson is 14-22 with a 6.14 ERA (196 earned runs/287.1 innings) in 103 games, 44 starts.

Ramirez, 24, went 0-1 with a 7.30 ERA (10 earned runs/12.1 innings) in 11 games with the Mets.

Gee, 26, went to the 15-Day Disabled List on July 13 after he underwent right shoulder surgery.
