Cubs activate RHP Lendy Castillo, option LHP Scott Maine to Triple-A

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today activated right-handed pitcher Lendy Castillo from the 15-day disabled list and optioned left-handed pitcher Scott Maine to Triple-A Iowa.

Castillo, 23, returns to the active roster following a rehab assignment that saw him post no record and a 0.90 ERA (2 ER/20.0 IP) in seven appearances (all starts) with rookie-level Mesa, Single-A Daytona and Double-A Tennessee.  He combined to strike out 22 batters, walk six and limit opponents to a .183 batting average.  Castillo’s two most recent outings came with Tennessee, including one scoreless inning in his last start on Thursday vs. Huntsville.

The righthander went 0-1 with a 7.04 ERA (6 ER/7.2 IP) in seven relief appearances with the Cubs this season before being placed on the disabled list with a left groin strain.  Castillo was selected by the Cubs in the major league portion of the Rule Five Draft on December 8, 2011.

Maine is 1-1 with a 4.79 ERA (11 ER/20.2 IP) in 21 relief appearances for the Cubs and is 3-2 with five saves and a 3.42 ERA (10 ER/26.1 IP) in 22 relief appearances with Triple-A Iowa this season.
