Astros purchase the contract of RHP Hector Ambriz from Triple-A

RHP Armando Galarraga designated for assignment

HOUSTON, TX - The Astros have purchased the contract of RHP Hector Ambriz (#62) from Triple A Oklahoma City, General Manager Jeff Luhnow announced today.

To make room for Ambriz on the 25-man roster, the Astros have designated RHP Armando Galarraga for assignment.

Ambriz, 28, was signed by the Astros as a minor league free agent on June 21 and reported to Triple A Oklahoma City, where he went 1-1 with a 3.33 ERA (9ER/24.1IP) in 18 appearances with the club. The 6-foot-2, 235 pound right-hander previously pitched in 20 games this season with the Triple A Columbus Clippers as a member of the Cleveland Indians organization.

This will mark the second career Major League stint for Ambriz, as he appeared in 34 games with the Cleveland Indians in 2010. The former 2006 fifth-round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Ambriz was acquired by the Indians in the 2009 Rule 5 Draft.

Galarraga went 0-4 with a 6.75 ERA (18ER/24.0IP) in five starts for the Astros this season.

With the moves, the Astros 40-man roster remains full.
