Minnesota's Diamond disciplined

Minnesota Twins pitcher Scott Diamond has received a six-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for throwing a pitch in the head area of Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers in the bottom of the third inning of Thursday night's game at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.  Joe Garagiola Jr., Senior Vice President of Standards & On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

Diamond had been scheduled to begin serving his suspension tonight, when the Clubs continue their series in Arlington.  However, he has elected to file an appeal.  Thus, the discipline issued to him will be held in abeyance until the appeal process is complete.
