Carolina RHP Jordan Cooper Named Minor League Player Of The Week

The Cleveland Indians today announced Carolina RHP JORDAN COOPER has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for August 19-26. Jordan is also coming off Carolina League Player of the Week honors.

Cooper, 23, went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA (12.0 IP, 11 H, 0R/0ER, 1 BB, 9 K) in 2 starts this week. On August 21, Cooper earned the win after tossing 5.0 innings (5.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R/0ER, 1 BB, 3 K) in a Mudcats win over Potomac. He followed that up with his best outing of the season on August 25th, tying a career high with 7.0 innings pitched (7.0 IP, 6 H, 0R/0ER, 1 HB, 0 BB, 6 K) while earning the win vs. Salem. On the season, Cooper is 8-8 with a 3.73 ERA (89.1 IP, 101 H, 43R/37ER, 15 BB, 69 K) and a save in 30 appearances, including 6 starts, between Lake County and Carolina. He currently has a scoreless innings streak of 13.0 consecutive innings dating back to August 18th.

Cooper was selected in the 9th round by the Indians of the June, 2010 Draft out of Wichita State University after being named Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher-of-the-Year and third team All-America that spring. The Topeka, KS native was originally selected by the Boston Red Sox in the June, 2008 draft but chose not to sign.
