White Sox place Gavin Floyd on disabled list; Recall Dylan Axelrod from Class AAA Charlotte

BALTIMORE – Prior to tonight’s game at Baltimore, the Chicago White Sox placed right-handed pitcher Gavin Floyd on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to August 27) with a right elbow flexor strain and recalled right-handed pitcher Dylan Axelrod from Class AAA Charlotte.  The White Sox also assigned outfielder Alejandro De Aza to Charlotte for an injury rehabilitation assignment.

Floyd, 29, is 9-9 with a 4.55 ERA (70 ER/138.1 IP) over 15 starts this season.  He left his last start on August 26 vs. Seattle after experiencing discomfort in his right elbow.  Floyd was previously on the disabled list from July 17-23 (retroactive to July 8) with right elbow tendinitis.

Axelrod, 27, has gone 1-2 with a 5.63 ERA (24 ER/38.1 IP) in 10 games (six starts) over two stints with the White Sox this season.  He is 7-5 with a 2.88 ERA (31 ER/97.0 IP) in 16 starts with the Knights.

De Aza, 28, has been on the disabled list since August 21 (retroactive to August 18) with bruised left ribs.  He is hitting .281 (125-445) with six home runs, 44 RBI, 73 runs scored and 21 stolen bases in 111 games this season.
