Cardinals recall catcher Bryan Anderson & RHP Trevor Rosenthal

RHP Brandon Dickson and INF Ryan Jackson Optioned to Memphis

The St. Louis Cardinals have recalled right-handed pitcher Trevor Rosenthal and catcher Bryan Anderson today, both from the Memphis Redbirds (AAA) roster. Rosenthal and Anderson will report to Pittsburgh and be available for tonight’s 6:05 CT game vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Rosenthal will join the Cardinals for the third time this season. He has made five appearances out of the bullpen, un-scored upon in four of those (4.2 IP) and allowing runs (2) just once. Anderson is joining the Cardinals for the second time in 2012, spending three days with the club July 6-8 when catcher Yadier Molina was on the bereavement list. He did not appear in a game during those three days, but has appeared in 100 games with Memphis, 97 as catcher. Anderson is batting .225, with 12 doubles, six home runs and 35 RBI with the Memphis Redbirds and leads the Pacific Coast League in total chances 772 and putouts 722. Rosenthal was 8-7 with a 2.78 ERA in 17 starts at Double-A Springfield at the time of his first recall on July 16. Since that recall he has been optioned to Memphis twice where he has made three starts.

To make room for the pair on the roster, the club has optioned INF Ryan Jackson and RHP Brandon Dickson to Memphis. Jackson was purchased on August 10 (Tyler Greene trade), making his Major League debut in a start on August 11. He has appeared in eight games and picked up his first Major League hit on August 23 (single vs. Houston). Dickson was recalled on August 24 and has appeared in two games totaling 4.0 innings pitched.
