Cardinals recall pitcher Victor Marte

ST. LOUIS, Mo, September 3, 2012 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to their Labor Day matinee with the New York Mets that they have recalled right-handed reliever Victor Marte from Memphis (AAA). 

Marte, 31, appeared in 43 games for the Cardinals earlier this season, going 2-2 with a 4.46 ERA while fanning 33 batters in his 38.1 innings pitched.  Marte made the team’s Opening Day roster and was with the big league club through the end of July before being optioned to Memphis on July 25.

He went was 0-2, 3.00 ERA in 12 appearances for the Triple-A Redbirds, striking out 10 batters while allowing no home runs.  The 6-2, 255-pound reliever was un-scored upon in seven of his final eight appearances at Memphis, with his last outing coming Sept. 1 at Nashville (1.0 IP).

Marte will wear uniform #66.
