Mariners trade Minor League catcher Guillermo Quiroz to Red Sox
Seattle will receive cash considerations in exchange for the catcher
SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced today that the Mariners have traded Minor League catcher Guillermo Quiroz to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations.
Quiroz, 30, hit .278 (84x302) with 45 runs scored, 15 doubles, 1 triple, 15 home runs and 89 games with AAA Tacoma. He was one of two Rainiers representatives on the 2012 Pacific Coast League All-Star team. He signed with Seattle as a minor league free agent on Dec. 9, 2011. Quiroz appeared in 7 Major League games with the Mariners in three different seasons (2006, 2009-10), batting .261 (6x23). Overall he has appeared in 101 games in the Majors with Toronto (2004-05), Seattle, Texas (2007) and Baltimore (2008). He is a career .208 hitter (53-for-255) in the Majors with 19 runs scored, 11 doubles, 2 homers and 28 RBI.
