Astros recognize Sept. 11 with Heroes Night

HOUSTON, TX – The Houston Astros once again recognized September 11th with Heroes Night at Minute Maid Park, which included a special pregame ceremony prior to tonight’s 7:05 p.m. game vs. the Chicago Cubs.

The ceremony, which included an appearance by Houston Mayor Annise Parker, was a tribute to area first responders and military personnel that provided fans and players the chance to thank Houston’s public servants for their dedication to protecting others. Over 100 policemen/policewomen, firefighters, military personnel and their family members took part in the on-field ceremony.

SPECIAL FIRST PITCH: Five members of the Houston first response team that was sent to Ground Zero in New York following the September 11, 2001 attacks threw out tonight’s ceremonial first pitches to members of the Astros team. Earlier today, four Astros players made the club’s annual September 11 Visit to Houston-area firehouses to thank firefighters for the service they provide to the city.
