MLB and the Scotts Company to celebrate start of 2012 MLB postseason and first-ever Wild Card games with launch event at the MLB Fan Cave

Exclusive Performance by Platinum Selling Recording Artist The Script, Appearance by Reds Legend Eric Davis and Special Donation to Boys & Girls Clubs of America

Major League Baseball and Scotts, the official Lawn Care Company of MLB, are celebrating the start of the 2012 Postseason and the first-ever Wild Card games with a launch event on Friday, October 5th at the MLB Fan Cave. The event includes an exclusive musical performance for hundreds of fans by The Script, an appearance by Reds Legend Eric Davis and a donation from Scotts to Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The event, which is part of Scotts year-long “Take the Field” activation, will include a special “green carpet” and Scotts branding on-site at the MLB Fan Cave, a unique event space in Greenwich Village, mixing baseball with music, popular culture, media, interactive technology and art.

Platinum selling recording artist The Script will treat hundreds of fans to an exclusive performance at the MLB Fan Cave, the home of the former Tower Records, beginning at 3:00pm ET. Part of the MLBFanCave.com Concert Series and open to the public, The Script will perform their biggest hits plus tracks off of their new album “# 3,” in stores October 9th.

The Scotts Company will present a $150,000 check to Boys & Girls Clubs of America to support field refurbishment projects around the country. Clubs receiving a portion of the donation include the Cairo, GA Boys & Girls Club, Boys & Girls Club of Western PA (Pittsburgh, PA), Boys & Girls Club of Maury County (Columbia, TN) and Venice Boys & Girls Club (Venice, CA). The donation came from “Take The Field’s” interactive, social media component, where for every new “like” on the Scotts Facebook page from March 28 to June 30, 2012, Scotts donated $1 to Boys & Girls Clubs of America, up to $150,000. By “liking” Scotts on Facebook, fans also gained access to a sweepstakes contest, where the winner earned the opportunity to “Take The Field” at the 2012 MLB All-Star Game and World Series.
