A’s announce starting pitchers for ALDS games 3 & 4

Oakland A’s Manager Bob Melvin announced today that left-hander Brett Anderson will start Game 3 of the American League Division Series against Detroit tomorrow (6:07 p.m. PDT) in Oakland, while right-hander A.J. Griffin gets the starting assignment for a potential Game 4 Wednesday.

Anderson, who logged a 4-2 record and 2.57 ERA in six starts in 2012, missed most of the season recovering from Tommy John surgery.  He was initially activated Aug. 21 and allowed only 29 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 25 batters in 35.0 innings before his regular season ended when he strained his right oblique muscle Sept. 19.  This will be his first game since his three-week rehab.

Griffin, who began the season in Double-A Midland, posted a 7-1 mark and 3.06 ERA in 15 starts after being called up from Triple-A Sacramento June 24.  His .875 winning percentage is the best in Oakland history and third best in franchise annals among pitchers with 15 or more starts.
