Pirates Acquire Vin Mazzaro And Clint Robinson From Kansas City For Pair Of Minor Leaguers

The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired right-handed pitcher Vin Mazzaro and first baseman Clint
Robinson from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for minor league pitchers Luis Rico and Luis
Santos. The announcement was made by Pirates Senior Vice President, General Manager Neal
Huntington.

The 27-year-old Robinson hit .292 (142-for-487) with 37 doubles, 13 home runs, 67 RBI and 70
runs scored in 131 games last year for Triple-A Omaha. He also went 0-for-4 in four pinch hitting
appearances with the Royals.

Robinson was originally selected by Kansas City in the 25th round of the 2007 First-Year Player
Draft. In 2011 he was named to both the Pacific Coast League mid- and post-season All-Star teams
after finishing third in the league in hits (164), fourth in total bases (268), tied for seventh in RBI
(100) and eighth in batting average (.326).

In 2010 the left-handed hitting first baseman won the Texas League Triple Crown after batting
.335 with 29 home runs and 98 RBI while also leading the league in doubles (41), total bases
(298), slugging percentage (.625) and OPS (1.035).

Mazzaro split the 2012 campaign between Omaha and Kansas City. He posted a 2-2 record along
with five saves and a 3.63 ERA (67.0ip/27er) in 22 games (eight starts) with the Storm Chasers
and a 4-3 record and 5.73 ERA in 18 appearances (six starts) with the Royals.

The 26-year-old Mazzaro was originally selected by Oakland in the third round of the 2005 First-
Year Player Draft. He made his Major League debut in 2009 and began his big league career with
17.2 consecutive scoreless innings, which is the longest by a starting pitcher in Oakland history.
Mazzaro has a career record of 15-21 along with a 5.22 ERA in 66 appearances (45 starts) in the
Majors with Oakland (2009-10) and Kansas City (2011-12).

To make room for Mazzaro and Robinson on the 40-man roster, the Pirates have designated infielders
Yamaico Navarro and Matt Hague for assignment.
