Rangers do not tender 2013 contracts to Geovany Soto, Brandon Snyder, Jake Brigham

Arlington, Texas – The Texas Rangers announced this evening that the club will not tender contract offers for the 2013 season to the following three players: catcher Geovany Soto, infielder/outfielder Brandon Snyder, and right-handed pitcher Jake Brigham.  The team has tendered 2013 contract offers to the other 26 unsigned players on the major league roster before tonight’s 11:00 p.m. CST deadline.

Soto, 29, combined to hit .198 with 11 home runs and 38 RBI in 97 games for Chicago-NL and Texas in 2012.  He was acquired by the Rangers in a July 31 trade with the Cubs.

Snyder, 26, spent five of the season’s six months in 2012 on the Rangers roster, batting .277 with 3 homers and 9 RBI in 40 games.  He was acquired from Baltimore in a January 3, 2012 trade.

Brigham, 24, was re-acquired from Chicago-NL in a November 20 trade.  The Rangers had sent Brigham to the Cubs in the July 31 trade involving Geovany Soto.  He combined to go 5-7 with a 4.72 ERA (67 ER/127.2 IP) in 23 games/starts last season for Frisco (AA) and Tennessee (AA) and was placed on the disabled list on August 9 for the remainder of the season with a right elbow strain.

With these transactions, the Rangers now have 36 players on the club’s 40-man roster. The team’s current major league roster is attached.
