Blue Jays sign DeRosa

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have signed INF MARK DeROSA to a one year US $750,000 contract for the 2013 season, with a US $750,000 club option in 2014.

DeROSA, 37, batted .188 with five doubles and six RBI in 48 games for the Nationals last season. The 6-1, 205 pound right-handed hitter will be entering his 16th major league season having played for Atlanta (1988-2004), Texas (2005-06), Chicago Cubs (2007-08), Cleveland (2009), St. Louis (2009), San Francisco (2010-11) and Washington (2012). In 1153 career games, the Passaic, New Jersey native has posted a .270 average with 93 home runs and 458 RBI.

To make room on the 40-man roster RHP SAM DYSON has been designated for assignment.
