Rockies announce non-roster players for 2013 Spring Training

Twenty-Four Players Receive Non-Roster Invitations

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today the club's non-roster players for this year's Major League Spring Training camp.  Below is the current list of 24 players, broken down by position.

Seven of the 12 pitchers that received non-roster invites have Major League service time, including Miguel Batista (14.143), who has the most among all pitchers in camp. Manuel Corpas (5.024), Logan Kensing (4.035), Chris Volstad (4.019), Erick Threets (1.028), Jeff Manship (1.022) and Mike McClendon (0.130) all have Major League service time as well. Four of the 12 pitchers to receive an invite were originally drafted by the Rockies as an amateur, including Tyler Anderson (1st round 2011 draft), Chad Bettis (2nd round 2010 draft), Parker Frazier (8th round 2007 draft) and Daniel Houston (7th round 2008 draft). Nick Schmidt was acquired as the player to be named later in the trade that sent Houston Street to San Diego. Anderson, Frazier, Houston and Schmidt will be participating in their first Major League camp.

Two of the five infielders to receive non-roster invites have Major League service time, they are Tommy Manzella (1.027) and Matt McBride (0.042). Two players, in Nolan Arenado (2nd round 2009 draft) and Ben Paulsen (3rd round 2009), were originally drafted by Colorado. Paulsen will enter his third Major League Spring Training, while Arenado will take part in his second Major League camp. Henry Wrigley was signed as a Minor League free agent by Colorado during the offseason, and 2013 marks his first career Big League camp.

None of the three non-roster outfielders have played in the Majors, though all were drafted by Colorado. Kent Matthes (4th round 2009 draft) will make his second appearance in Major League Spring Training, while both Corey Dickerson (8th round 2010 draft) and Kyle Parker (1st round 2010 draft) will make their first appearance in Big League camp.

Both Yorvit Torrealba (11.028) and Gustavo Molina (0.162) have Major League experience among the four catchers to receive non-roster invites. Both Lars Davis (3rd round 2007 draft) and Jose Gonzalez (signed by Colorado July 16, 2004) were drafted or signed originally by Colorado. This will be Davis' second Major League camp, while its Gonzalez's first.

Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report on Friday, Feb. 10. The first full squad workout is Sunday, Feb. 17.
