Indians sign Rich Hill

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed INF MIKE AVILES to a two-year Major League contract with a club option for the 2015 season.

Aviles, 31, is entering his first season with Cleveland after being acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays last November 3 along with CA/INF Yan Gomes in exchange for RHP Esmil Rogers. The New York, NY native spent the 2012 season as the primary shortstop of the Boston Red Sox, hitting .250 (128-512) with 28 doubles, 13HR and 60RBI in 136 games and amassed career-highs in doubles, HR, RBI and tied career-bests in extra-base hits (41) and steals (14).   The 5-year Major League veteran's 2012 totals included a .286 (42-149, .429SLG) mark against left-handed pitching.
