Red Sox Spring Training begins tomorrow

Pitchers and Catchers to begin workouts at 9:30 a.m. Workouts are free and open to the public

Red Sox pitchers and catchers have their first workouts tomorrow, Tuesday, February 12, at Fenway South, the club’s 106-acre Spring Training and Player Development Complex in Lee County, Florida.  Workouts, which are free and open to the public, start at 9:30 a.m. and are expected to include 27 pitchers and five catchers.

Fans may enter the complex through the West Gate beginning at 9:00 a.m.  Additionally, tours of JetBlue Park are also available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and cost five dollars per person. Tickets for tours may be purchased from the JetBlue Park box office.  Concessions and merchandise will be on sale during these workouts.

The team’s first full-squad workout is scheduled for Friday, February 15. The Red Sox will have 59 players in camp, with 16 infielders and 11 outfielders joining the pitchers and catchers (including 19 non-roster invitees).

All practices from February 12-20 will take place at the Fenway South Player Development Complex, located at 11500 Fenway South Drive in Fort Myers. On most days, the workouts will begin at approximately 9:30 a.m.  Any changes to that start time will be announced. 

Spring Training games begin February 21 with a college double header at 1:35 p.m. against Northeastern University followed by Boston College.

DIRECTIONS TO FENWAY SOUTH: From the North:?Take I-75 South to Exit 131 (Daniels Parkway).  Make a left off the exit and go east for approximately two miles.  Fenway South will be on your left.  From the South:?Take I-75 North to Exit 131 (Daniels Parkway).  Make a right off the exit and go east for approximately two miles.  Fenway South will be on your left.

MEDIA SCHEDULE FOR SPRING TRAINING WORKOUTS

Credential pickup at the Fenway South Player Development Complex begins at 7:30 a.m.

The clubhouse will be open to accredited media from 8:00 until 9:00 a.m. 

The clubhouse will reopen after the workouts.

Manager John Farrell (and a player to be named later) will be available to the media following the workouts at the bench adjacent to the entrance of the Player Development Complex.
