Mariners trade Mike Carp to Boston Red Sox
Seattle to receive a player to be named later or cash considerations in exchange for first baseman
PEORIA, Ariz. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik today announced that the club has traded first baseman/designated hitter Mike Carp to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for a player to be named later, or cash considerations.
Carp, 26, was designated for assignment on February 12 to make room on the Mariners 40-man roster for left-handed pitcher Joe Saunders.
Carp appeared in 173 games over four seasons with the Mariners (2009-2012). He combined to bat .255 (139x545) with 28 double, 2 triples and 18 home runs. He was acquired by Seattle from New York (NL) in a three-team, 12-player trade on Dec. 10, 2008.
