Cardinals place Chris Carpenter on D.L.

Team places pitcher on 60-day disabled list

Jupiter, Fla., February 22, 2013 - The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have placed pitcher Chris Carpenter on the 60-day disabled list due to continued irritation in his cervical spine and right shoulder.

"We felt that it was best to make an official announcement on Carp's roster status today from both the administrative standpoint and also from a roster flexibility standpoint," stated Cardinals Senior V.P. and General Manager John Mozeliak.

Carpenter, 37, appeared in three regular season games and three postseason games last season after beginning the year on the disabled list.  The veteran right-hander owns a career mark of 144-94 with a 3.46 ERA and he ranks 2nd among the Cardinals all-time leaders in winning percentage (.683; 95-44) and 3rd in strikeouts (1,085).
