D-backs to host Team Mexico in exhibition game March 5

The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) announced that they will host Team Mexico in an exhibition game at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick on March 5 at 7:10 p.m. The game is in advance of the World Baseball Classic, which will be held March 7-10 at Salt River Fields and Chase Field.

Team Mexico will feature several Major League players including D-backs right-hander David Hernandez, who is of Mexican descent. Other popular players on the team include San Francisco's Sergio Romo, Los Angeles' Adrian Gonzalez and Luis Cruz, Milwaukee's Yovani Gallardo and Boston's Alfredo Aceves. Former D-backs on the Team Mexico roster include Karim Garcia, Oscar Villarreal and Rodrigo Lopez.

Former big league Cy Young Award winner Fernando Valenzuela will serve as a pitching coach for Team Mexico alongside fellow former big leaguers Teddy Higuera, Juan Castro, Sid Monge and Ruben Amaro, while former Major Leaguer Rick Renteria will serve as the manager.

In addition to hosting this exhibition game, Salt River Fields will host the first Team Mexico game in the World Baseball Classic on Thursday, March 7 against Team Italy at 1:00 p.m. On Friday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m., Team Mexico will face Team USA at Chase Field and on Saturday, March 9, Team Mexico will face Team Canada at 12:30 p.m.
