Texas Rangers receive LHP Brad Mils on waiver claim from Los Angeles Angels

The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has received left-handed pitcher Brad Mills on a waiver claim from the Los Angeles Angels.

Mills, 28, will join the Rangers later today or tomorrow and has been added to the major league roster. To make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Neftali Feliz has been placed on the 60-day disabled list.

The left-hander was 1-0 with a 6.00 ERA (6.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R-ER, 1 BB, 2 SO) in 3 games/one start for the Angels this spring. He pitched 6.0 innings in a minor league game in his last outing on Thursday.

Mills spent most of 2012 at Triple-A Salt Lake, going 5-10, 5.86 in 21 games/19 starts. He made one spot start for Los Angeles, throwing 5.0 shutout innings on July 8 vs. Baltimore to earn his first major league victory since August 5, 2011. He was the first Angels pitcher to ever win a game in his only appearance of a season. The left-hander was acquired from Toronto for catcher Jeff Mathis on December 3, 2011.

Mills is 3-3, 7.76 in 15 games/10 games in his major league career with the Blue Jays and Angels. He pitched parts of three seasons for Toronto from 2009-11.

Feliz, 24, was 3-1 with a 3.16 ERA in 8 games/7 starts with the Rangers in 2012 after moving to the starting rotation. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 19 with right elbow inflammation and did not pitch again in 2012 before undergoing "Tommy John" ligament replacement surgery on August 1. He is continuing to rehab from the surgery.
