Minor League RHP Steven Hensley sent to Rockies

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced today that the Mariners have acquired right-handed pitcher Aaron Harang from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Steven Hensley.

To make room on the Major League, 40-man, roster for Harang the Mariners have designated right-handed pitcher Kameron Loe for assignment. Seattle now has 10 days to trade, release or outright the contract of Loe.

When Harang reports to the Mariners he will wear #39.

Harang, 34, went to camp this spring with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was traded to Colorado on April 6 (for C Ramon Hernandez) and designated for assignment by the Rockies the same day. He has not appeared in a regular season game this season.

In 2012, he was 10-10 with a career-low 3.61 ERA in 31 starts with Los Angeles (NL). In 179.2 innings pitched, he allowed 72 earned runs on 167 hits while striking out 131.

The 6-foot-7, 260-pound veteran is in his 12th big league season and has a career record of 105-104 with a 4.19 ERA in 299 games (293 starts). Since 2004, Harang ranks among the NL leaders in wins (95, T5th), strikeouts (1,354, 2nd), innings (1,674.1, 2nd), starts (263, 1st) and complete games (13, T8th).

He won 14 games (14-7) with San Diego in 2011, and won a career-high 16 in both 2006 and 2007 with Cincinnati. He was the Reds Opening Day starter for five consecutive years (2006-2010), and was Cincinnati's nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award in 2007 and 2009, the Branch Rickey Award in 2007, and the Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award from 2007-2009.

Hensley, 26, has appeared in only 2 games in relief with AAA Tacoma this season, allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits and walking 2 in 2.2 innings. After spending most of this career as a starter, he moved to the bullpen in 2012 going 4-6 with a 4.84 ERA (38 ER, 70.2 IP) in 44 relief appearances with AA Jackson and Tacoma. He was originally selected by the Mariners in the fourth round of the 2008 June draft.
