Rangers Place Ogando on Disabled List; Recall Burns From Round Rock

Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has placed right-handed pitcher Alexi Ogando on the 15-day disabled list with right biceps tendinitis. To take his place on the active roster, the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Cory Burns (#57) from Round Rock (AAA).

Ogando earned the win in yesterday's game in Oakland, allowing 2 runs in 6.0 innings. He is 4-2 with a 3.08 ERA (17 ER/49.2 IP) in 9 starts this season. The first date he would be eligible to return is May 31. It is Ogando's second stint on the major league disabled list, the other from June 12-July 16, 2012 with a right groin strain.

Burns, 25, will be in uniform tonight seeking his Rangers debut. He has spent the entire season at Round Rock since being optioned on March 31 at the end of spring training. Burns has gone 0-1 with a 1.38 ERA (2 ER/13.0 IP) in 14 relief appearances for the Express, converting 8 of 9 save chances. His only runs allowed and lone loss this season came in his last outing on Sunday at Tucson (0.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R-ER, 2 BB-1 IBB, 0 SO, 19 pitches/9 strikes). Over his first 13 outings in 2013, he tossed 12.2 scoreless innings with 2 walks against 18 strikeouts, stranding 6 of 7 inherited runners. Burns was 1-1 with a 5.79 ERA (6 ER/9.1 IP) in 9 relief outings for Texas this spring.

Burns' only major league action to date came last year with San Diego, going 0-1 with a 5.50 ERA (11 ER/18.0 IP) over 17 relief outings spanning two stints with the Padres. The Phoenix-area native pitched at the University of Arizona and was acquired in a November 28 trade with San Diego.

With these moves, the Rangers still have 39 players on the club's 40-man roster.
