White Sox host reception to celebrate 30th anniversary of Winning Ugly team

CHICAGO - The Chicago White Sox will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1983 "Winning Ugly" team with a private reception, featuring members of the 1983 team, during the June 8 game against the Oakland Athletics. 

The private event in a Diamond Suite features the opportunity for attendees to spend six innings with 1983 American League Manager of Year Tony LaRussa, AL Cy Young Award Winner LaMarr Hoyt, AL Rookie of the Year Ron Kittle and fan-favorite Mike Squires, and enjoy a buffet catered by Levy Restaurants. Additionally, attendees will receive one autograph from each 1983 team member in attendance, along with a special commemorative gift.

The 1983 Winning Ugly team had an unforgettable season, winning 99 games in route the AL West Division title. That season, the White Sox made their first post season appearance since the 1959 World Series.

The White Sox are celebrating the 1983 team throughout the 2013 season by wearing throwback jerseys, implementing a retro race and bringing back former players at all Sunday home games at U.S. Cellular Field.
