Red Sox activate left-hander Franklin Morales from Disabled List
Right-hander Alfredo Aceves optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket
BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox today activated left-hander Franklin Morales from the disabled list. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, right-hander Alfredo Aceves was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.
Morales, 27, began the season on the 15-day disabled list due to a low back strain. He appeared in five games, all starts, over two rehabilitation assignments, including one outing for Single-A Greenville and two each for Double-A Portland and Pawtucket. While on rehab, he posted a 1-1 record with a 3.18 ERA (6 ER/17.0 IP), seven walks, and 13 strikeouts. Since being acquired from the Rockies in May 2011, Morales owns a 3.73 ERA (45 ER/108.2 IP) with 107 strikeouts in 73 appearances with the Red Sox, including nine starts.
Aceves has appeared in seven games, including four starts, over two stints with the Red Sox this season, going 2-1 with a 6.57 ERA (18 ER/24.2 IP), 15 walks, and 19 strikeouts. The 30-year-old allowed one run over 6.0 innings to earn the victory in Boston’s 9-3 win over the Phillies last night. In four starts with the PawSox this season, he is 2-1 with a 3.13 ERA (8 ER/23.0 IP) with 11 walks and 21 strikeouts.
