Mets place infielder Ruben Tejada on 15-day DL, select the contract of infielder Omar Quintanilla

The New York Mets today announced that the club has placed infielder Ruben Tejada on the 15-Day Disabled with a right quad strain and selected the contract of infielder Omar Quintanilla from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League. Quintanilla will wear #3 and will be available for tonight's game at New York (AL). To make room on the 40-man roster, the Mets transferred Frank Francisco to the 60-Day Disabled List.

Quintanilla, 31, was hitting .333 (42-126) with 26 runs scored, nine doubles, two triples, two home runs and 18 RBI?in 47 games for Las Vegas.

He hit .257 (18-70) with five doubles and four RBI in 29 games with the Mets last year. He was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for cash considerations on July 20. Quintanilla hit .232 (23-99) with 12 RBI?in 36 games for Baltimore.

Quintanilla became the first Mets player with a surname beginning with the letter "Q" in team history.

In 292 major league games with the Mets, Orioles, Rangers and Rockies, Quintanilla has hit .220 (152-691) with 33 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 50 RBI.
