Dodgers place A.J. Ellis on the Disabled List; Recall Matt Magill

Magill to start today's game at Colorado

The Los Angeles Dodgers today placed catcher A.J. Ellis on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to May 30) with a left oblique strain and recalled right-hander Matt Magill from Triple-A Albuquerque. Magill will make today's start at Colorado in place of left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu, who will have his next start pushed back due to a left foot contusion. Magill, 23, has made four Major League starts this season without recording a decision, while posting a 5.50 ERA. He last pitched on May 25 for Triple-A Albuquerque at Nashville (Brewers), picking up the win by allowing just two hits in 6.0 scoreless innings, and has gone 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA in five starts for the Isotopes. Magill last appeared in a big league game on May 19 at Atlanta, when in he tossed 5.0 innings of one-run ball in a no-decision.

Ellis is batting .262 with two home runs and 12 RBI in 42 games and has excelled on defense this season, throwing out a Major League-best 12 would-be basestealers in 25 attempts (48.0%).
