Rockies place RHP Rafael Betancourt on 15-Day Disabled List

Club Selects Contract of RHP Manny Corpas from Triple-A Colorado Springs

The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has placed right-handed pitcher Rafael Betancourt on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain retroactive to June 1. To replace Betancourt on the active roster, the Rockies have selected the contract of RHP Manny Corpas from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Corpas (#60) will be in uniform and available in today's game against the Dodgers (2:10 p.m. MDT).

Betancourt, 38, has appeared in 22 games for the Rockies this season finishing 20 games and collecting 11 saves in 12 opportunities. His 11 saves are tied for seventh in the National League while his 20 games finished is tied for second. He converted 10-straight save opportunities to begin the season going 1-1 with a 1.65 ERA (16.1 ip, 3 er) over his first 17 games. Since being acquired from Cleveland on July 23, 2009, he has converted on 52 of his 70 save opportunities and has a 2.97 ERA (227.1 ip, 75 er). Betancourt set a career high in saves last season with 31, tied for the fourth-most in franchise history.

Corpas, 31, began the season with Triple-A Colorado Springs where he was 2-3 with a 5.19 ERA (34.2 ip, 20 er) over 17 games. In 8 home games, Corpas is 2-0 with a 3.24 ERA (16.2 ip, 6 er) with 7 walks compared to 16 strikeouts. The Panama City native was with the Rockies from 2006-2010 amassing a 12-16 record with 34 saves, 51 holds and a 3.93 ERA (286.0 ip, 125 er) in 144 games during those five seasons. He has a 4.09 ERA (332.2 ip, 151 er) over 328 career Major League games and is 12-18 with 34 saves in 57 chances.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
