Blue Jays activate Davis & Johnson

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have placed RHP RAMON ORTIZ on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain and have returned OF RAJAI DAVIS and RHP JOSH JOHNSON from rehabilitation assignments and activated them both from the 15-day disabled list.

DAVIS, 32, is returning from a left oblique strain, having last appeared for Toronto on May 10. The 5-10, 195 lb. outfielder appeared in two games with Dunedin (A) on a rehab assignment, batting .222 (2-9).  This season he has appeared in 26 games for Toronto posting a .284 average with one home run, four RBI and eight stolen bases. Davis is a career .270 hitter with 22 home runs, 204 RBI and 231 stolen bases in 739 games for Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Oakland and Toronto.

JOHNSON, 29, was placed on the disabled list with right triceps soreness and returns to start tonight after making three starts on a rehabilitation assignment with Dunedin (A) and Buffalo (AAA).  In those three starts he posted a 0-1 record with a 5.40 ERA.  The 6-7, 250 lb. right-handed pitcher has made four starts this season for Toronto posting a 0-1 record with a 6.86 ERA.  The Minneapolis, Minnesota native has a career record of 56-38 in 158 games, 148 starts with an ERA of 3.23.

ORTIZ, 40, left his start on Sunday in San Diego after suffering a right elbow strain in the third inning. He is scheduled to have an MRI on the elbow later today. In seven appearances for Toronto this season, including four starts, the 6-0, 175 lb. right-hander has posted a 1-2 record with a 6.04 ERA. He appeared in four games, making three starts, with Buffalo going 2-0 with a 2.18 ERA.  The Cotui, Dominican Republic native has a career record of 87-86 with a 4.95 ERA in 303 games, 218 starts, over 15 Major League seasons.
