D-backs recall LHP Joe Paterson and RHP Charles Brewer from Triple-A Reno

Place LHP Matt Reynolds on 15-day disabled list; option LHP Tyler Skaggs to Reno

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) recalled left-handed pitcher Joe Paterson and right-handed pitcher Charles Brewer (@CharlesBrewerAZ) from Triple-A Reno, optioned left-handed pitcher Tyler Skaggs (@TylerSkaggs37) and placed left-handed pitcher Matt Reynolds on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left elbow, according to D-backs' Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

Paterson, 27, was 2-1 with a 2.36 ERA (7 ER in 26.2 IP) and 29 strikeouts in 24 relief appearances with Reno this season. He did not allow a run in his last 14 games with the Aces (15.0 IP) and has limited left-handed hitters to a .143 average (7-for-49).

In 68 games with the D-backs in 2011-12, Paterson was 0-3 with 1 save and a 5.40 ERA (22 ER in 36.2 IP). He was the first-ever Rule 5 selection to make a D-backs Opening Day roster in 2011.

Brewer, 25, went 3-6 with a 5.85 ERA (44 ER in 67.2 IP) in 12 starts with Reno in 2013. The Paradise Valley native will wear No. 77 and has no Major League experience.

Over 5 Minor League seasons in the D-backs' organization (2009-), Brewer is 37-24 with a 3.98 ERA (212 ER in 479.1 IP) in 95 games (85 starts).

Reynolds, 28, is 0-2 with 2 saves and a 1.98 ERA (6 ER in 27.1 IP) in 30 games with Arizona this season. He posted a career-high 22-game scoreless streak from Sept. 19, 2011-May 11, 2012, and tied a club record with 19 scoreless outings to start a season (also Paterson in 2011).

Skaggs, 21, was 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA (10 ER in 16.2) in 3 starts with the D-backs in 2013.
