Astros sign four Draft picks

Seventh-rounder James Ramsay signs out of South Florida

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros announced today the signing of four selections from the 2013 MLB First Year Player Draft: OF James Ramsay (7th round), RHP Kyle Westwood (13th round), LHP Sebastian Kessay (22nd round) and C Brett Booth (34th round). Contract terms were not disclosed. The announcement was made by Astros Director of Amateur Scouting Mike Elias.

Ramsay, 21, becomes the Astros first top-10 selection to sign since this weekend's draft. A center fielder out of the University of South Florida, Ramsay was a two-time All Big East player (2012-13) and led his club this season in batting average, hits, slugging percentage and total bases. He finished fourth in the Big East in hits and eighth in batting average. Ramsay was signed by Astros South Florida Area Scout John Martin.

"James is a tough out and has the ingredients we look for in a top-of-the-order type hitter," said Elias. "He has a patient eye, speed, and a left-handed bat to go with his premium defense in center field. Our scouts have been excited by his play since high school and we look forward to seeing him wear out opposing pitchers as he advances through our system."

The Astros have signed four of their 40 draft picks this season.
