Mets select RHP Carlos Torres from Las Vegas (AAA), option RHP Greg Burke to Las Vegas (AAA)

FLUSHING, N.Y., June 15, 2013 - The New York Mets today announced that the club has selected the contract of righthanded pitcher Carlos Torres from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League and optioned righthanded pitcher Greg Burke to the 51s. To make room on the 40-man roster, the club designated righthanded pitcher Collin McHugh for assignment. Torres will wear #52 and will available for tomorrow's game.

Torres, 30, was 6-3 with a 3.89 ERA (31 earned runs/71.2 innings) in 12 starts for the 51s. He allowed 71 hits while issuing 19 walks and striking out 67.

The Santa Cruz, CA native threw back-to-back complete games in his last two appearances on June 3 at Fresno and June 9 at Tacoma. Torres allowed five hits, one run, earned, with two walks and 15 strikeouts during that span.

Torres pitched in 31 games in relief for the Colorado Rockies last year, going 5-3 with a 5.26 ERA (31 earned runs/53.0 innings). He is 6-6 with a 5.97 ERA (63 earned runs/95.0 innings) in 44 major league games with the Rockies and White Sox.

Burke, 30, was 0-1 with a 3.15 ERA (seven earned runs/20.0 innings) in 21 games with the Mets.

McHugh, 25, went 0-1 with a 10.29 ERA (eight earned runs/7.0 innings) in three games, one start with New York this season.
